Saying Goodbye to Summer
We're free-falling towards winter. The birch and aspen leaves have all fallen to the ground. The sun has migrated towards the southern horizon and we're currently losing an hour of daylight each week. The bucket of water on the front porch of our house - which the dogs obediently wash their feet in following walks (strange, I know, but we didn't start this madness) - is now frozen. The piles of stuff around the yard need to get picked up soon before everything is buried beneath snow for the next 7-8 months. The transition happens so quickly that it's nearly over before you even realize it. For many it's a stressful time of year, but I'm excited. With the snow comes skiing and with the darkness comes an opportunity to slow down and relax and read and sleep.
